Lack of assistance with locating my car

In November 2016 i was involved in a car accident of which i was advised to take the car to the nearest vehicle assessment centre. i left the car at the assessment centre and Discovery Insure was informed as the car was overheating. I was told at the assessment centre that arrangements will be made with the insurance and upon following up i was told that the car was taken to a panelbeater. At the time the investigations were still ongoing. On the 23rd of December 2016, i was informed that my claim was rejected of which i accepted the outcome and did not dispute. I asked the lady who had sent me the rejection letter to assist with further information with regards to where my car was taken to. During this time (while investigations where happening, i did not know where the car was taken to). I received no feedback from discovery and i called numerous times to try and find out where the car was taken to (which panelbeater). I also called the claims administrator and could never find him. I then reverted back to the assessment centre where i had left the car and they told me the car was taken to Precision & Sons but that even if i try to call at that time in December i will not be able to get the car as the panelbeaters are closed for the festive season, still bearing this in mind i called Precision & Sons but as confirmed they were closed until 9 January 2016. As soon as the panelbeater opened i called them and to my surprise they told me that they received no such car (with my registration and description), they assisted me and we called their other branches including all the towing services they use until they also gave up and told me to go back to Discovery Insure and ask where they had instructed the vehicle assessment centre to take the car to. This continued for another week and i was calling everyday without fail, until i managed to reach a lady at Discovery Insure who indicated i should try Bens Panelbeaters and gave me their number. I called Bens Panelbeaters and lo and behold, they confirmed that they had received my car on the 28th of November and that on the 5th/6th of December 2016 an assessor/investigator from Discovery had visited their premises to assess the car.

What i do not understand is how it can take me almost a month tracking down my car when Discovery Insure knew exactly where my car was, and i had accepted their rejection with no objections but they still could not disclose where the car was knowing fully well i was never informed where my car was taken to. After finding my car, of course the quotation to fix it by the panelbeater is so high secondly when i wanted to take it out i could not because it had accumulated storage costs since it was taken to them.

If you calculate the daily rate from November until now January - the cost is very high.

what i want to know is why did Discovery not tell me where my car was and indicate that i should go and get it as any costs accumulated would be of my own account? this could have been avoided, now i am sitting with a high bill to fix the car and if i want a second opinion i have to pay the high storage costs which i cannot afford so that i can be able to tow the car out.

I would really like some indulgence in this matter, as i have stated before the rejection was accepted but the manner in which this was handled is really disappointing, because if i knew where my car was i could have made arrangements on time to go and fetch it.

Thanks,

Ntando (Ms)
