Is the Discovery Insure online quotation portal a total ****?
Is the Discovery Insure online quotation portal a total ****?
As one of my 2020 plans, I decided to review my car and household insurance... While I was sitting in my car, waiting for a friend of mine, I thought it a good opportunity to google the names of reputable insurance companies. I came accross the online form for Discovery Insure. It all seemed very straight forward i.e. fill in one's personal details, as well as the registration or vin number (and a description) of the vehicle to be insured. I duly completed the form and was very impressed when I received three separate quotes within a couple of minutes of having submitted the form. The insurance premiums, which included household goods, was less than I pay at the moment and 'to top it all' I would not have to pay an excess. I did not have time to save the quote but it didn't concern me as I planned to re-submit the form for a copy of the quote in order to peruse the Discovery Insure information in detail.
My first disappointment... A few days later, called up the Discovery Insure form but received a notification to the effect that I had already received a quote from them.
I contacted Discovery Insure and requested they allow me to complete the form once again. I receceived the same quotes as before. I duly took a screen shot of the comparitive quotes for my records.
After reading through the Discovery Insure policy, I decided that I would join up with them.
To cut a long story short, Bongani Mazibuko contacted me but I was unable to talk to him and therefore emailed through the details of my vehicle, home address and other information which appeared on my existing insurance profile. The final quotation he sent to me was much higher than the online quote. When I went through it carefully, I noticed that some of the details were incorrect e.g. car is parked in garage overnight and not outside. I assumed that was the reason for the higher quote. A revised quote which was only a couple of rands cheaper and a covering letter was sent back to me. In the letter, he stated that I had requested an online quote for an older car... I emailed him to confirm that I only have one car and the licence plate number for my car had been submitted to Discovery on their online form. When I didn't hear from him after a couple of days, I sent him another email. Two emails and a couple of weeks later and I still haven't had any reply, apology or explanation from Bongani Mazibuko.
