Insure-ing adherence to speed limit

Discovery has the database to know what the speed limit on all travelable roads in South Africa is, but give no guidance to policy holders to adhere on roads and on and off ramps from highways where it is not clear and definitely not indicated by road markings, road signs or general knowledge.

Cases in point:

* goal reset after travelling 68km/h in a 60km/h zone not indicated on an offramp

* travelling for tens of kilometers at 80km/h on roads around Hartebee****rt Dam after a "lonely" road sign indicated for us to do so, but it is never uplifted - frustrated and angry drivers hoot and pass reclessly is not making driving safer.

Dear Cornel

We've called a moment ago in an effort to address your concerns, regrettably you're unavailable.

While we acknowledge your concerns, we must point out that our role as your insurer is to cover you for vehicle loss/claims in an event and while we encourage safe driving, road signs, speed limits and road markings aren't our responsibility but the SA road agency's. Please direct these concerns accordingly.

Regards

Discovery Insure

Discovery Insure is missing the point. Although "(y)our role as (my) insurer is to cover (me) for vehicle loss/claims in an event (etc.)" you reward safe driving which includes adhering to the speed limit, although the physical enforcin of that is (should be) the responsibility of law enforcing agencies.

I did NOT request Discovery Insure to put up road signs, paint road markings and fill up pot holes - my suggestion is more far reaching in that Discovery could advise their policy holders through their APPLICATION what the speed limit is at any given time as they have this information to reward their policy holders / reset their goals.

Think outside the box and don't underestimate your policy holders' intelligence.
