Impossible Driving Goals

Every quarter Discovery Insure gives you a monthly personal goal to achieve. Achieving this goal means you get more cash-back. Mine was no night-time driving.

In spite of the fact that I had a perfect night-time driving score for July, Discovery didn’t allocate me my personal goal points.

When I contacted Discovery about my missing points they wrote back saying that the points are calculated on the past 3 months night-time driving score. (Nowhere is this stated when you choose your night-time driving goal.)

This means that it was impossible for me to achieve my personal goal for July. How can Discovery set a monthly goal based on past performance? It makes absolutely no sense.

When I wrote back to Discovery complaining that this makes no sense Discovery didn’t answer my query but instead wrote back explaining their three monthly policy.

What I am saying is a policy based on past performance that makes it impossible to reach one’s goals is unreasonable. Secondly, nowhere is this three monthly policy communicated upfront.

Good day Neil

Thank you for raising your concerns.

Personal goal points for night driving works on a quarterly basis.

We note that the information is made available on both the app and the website ( digital platforms)

On the app it is available under:
  • Policy documents
  • Vitality Drive Program
  • Page 22

Herewith link for added information:

Discovery Insure

Thank for your reply

In the link you refer to it has the requirements on the left-hand side column and the points one will achieve on the right-hand side column.

On the left-hand side it says "Set and achieve a personal goal (each quarter) online." and then on the right hand side column it says, "50 Vitality drive points every month.

So if I achieve my personal goals for the whole quarter do I get my 50 vitality drive points every month. No I don't.

Why don't I get them? Because your policy is that achieving the goal is based on the previous 3 months driving data. Which made it impossible for me to achieve the goal in July.

My main issue is that such a policy is unfair and unreasonable. (the fact that it isn't communicated is a side issue).

Neil
