Frustration with Discovery Insure
I'm struggling to much to keep within the restrictions, i should be driving at a snail's pace and not move within the car and not brake. But in this country where taxi drivers drive right in front of you and you have to brake with to avoid an accident, how can you not be eliminated for that? I hate this discovery Insure. I should go back to Outsurance

13 May 2026, 13:24Good day Jennifer,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns about our VitalityDrive program. We understand that you feel the rules and scoring are too restrictive and that you're being unnecessarily penalized for things like avoiding taxis by braking and swerving etc.
After reviewing your driving scores, which we included in your monthly performance email sent on 8 May, we noted that you lost the most points for cellphone use (432), followed by speeding (179) and braking (172).
The VitalityDrive benefit is designed to encourage a proactive driving approach instead of a reactive one and this includes taking a more cautious approach when it comes to driving but this does not mean driving at a snail's pace and we're truly sorry that you see it that way. Keeping within the speed limits, maintaining a safe following distance and concentrating on the road without being distracted by a cellphone usually allows drivers to see potential hazards like taxis, potholes, etc with enough time to take appropriate action.

Our penalties were created with the safety of our drivers as well as other road users in mind while following the rules of the road as set out in the National Road Traffic Act. We understand that we, nor you have any control over other road users, and we truly hope that with consistent driving within these rules you get to see the value we hope to achieve. If there are instances where you believe that there was no other avenue but to follow an option resulting in a harsh penalty, and you have dashcam footage to support this, we would consider reviewing this and also forwarding it to our R&D team for consideration in future updates.
Remember, our sensor is an ever evolving technology, and we welcome all suggestions and ideas for future enhancements.
Regards
Discovery Insure
