FAILURE TO PROCESS CLAIMS
I recently took out insurance for my car with Discovery Insure about 4 months ago. 2 weeks ago somebody reversed into me while my car was parked in car park. I then reported opened a case and then filed for a claim. Its 2 weeks later, they are asking me for my previous insurance history saying they cant process my claim due to that as they need to assess my risk. What I don't understand is that they have been happily debting my account for 4 months without having assessed my risk. How did they determine the rate I must pay if they hadn't done that? Its as if they are now looking for something in order for them not to pay. Information requested presently should have been requested when I took out the insurance. They actually quoted me a lot more than the others but I trusted that since its DISCOVERY I would not have any issues with them. But I guess not. Given what I know now, I WOULD NOT HAVE INSURED MY CAR WITH DISCOVERY, EXPENSIVE FOR NOTHING...<br> I have all my Medical, life and retirement with Discovery and I am wondering whether I should not be shopping around given the red tape when trying to claim
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention, the allegations which we deem very serious.
The process at this stage is not to assess your risk, but rather to validate the information provided at quote stage. We confirm that the rates as well as terms and conditions of your cover acceptance is based on the fact that an Insurance Contract is based on Good Faith. That is; the information we receive at quote and acceptance stage is treated as true and correct. What then happens at claims stage we validate the information supp**** at quote and acceptance stage previous insurer(s). We may only (mostly) obtain information on cancelled policies.
As you have indicated, you have an active policy, the insurer may at times refuse us the information and then this becomes the client's responsibility to provide those details required to validate your claim. We are pleased that you have confirmed to assist us with obtain the information for us and forwarding it to the claim's handler for your claim to be furthered.
As discussed we are not looking for reasons not to process your claim and apologise if that is what you experienced.
