Extremely Disappointed with Discovery Insurance
We have been loyal customers of Discovery for over 10 years and have never had any issues with claims until now. Recently, my husband's bakkie's wheels were ******, this includes the tyres and mags. Despite this clear case of theft, Discovery declined our claim, citing "wear and tear" as the reason. How can there be wear and tear on ****** tyres and mags??????????
The report from Tiger Wheel and Tyre confirmed the presence of mags, but this was not stipulated when our broker assisted in transferring the policy from my name to my husband's. When my husband contacted Discovery customer care last week, they initially claimed the denial was due to the mags. Now, they say they are uncomfortable paying out because the wheels were not stipulated on the policy. How does a bakkie drive without wheels?? Why would we insure a vehicle on the most expensive business plan if it doesn't have wheels?
This situation is utterly unacceptable. We have paid Discovery far over R300,000 in premiums, and this is the service we receive??? It seems Discovery is more interested in making money than helping loyal customers who pay on time every month and rarely make claims. We will be moving all our policies elsewhere and reconsidering our medical aid with Discovery due to similar issues.
Thank you for your prompt response and for providing clarity on the matter. I appreciate the detailed explanation regarding the policy terms and the coverage for aftermarket equipment.
However, I would like to address a crucial point that seems to have been overlooked. The tyres and wheels are essential components of the vehicle, necessary for its operation. Unlike optional equipment such as satellite navigation systems or sound equipment, tyres and wheels are fundamental to the vehicle's ability to function. The theft of these components should not be categorized under "extra equipment" but rather as a basic necessity for the vehicle.
Given that the bakkie cannot operate without tyres and wheels, I believe it is reasonable to expect coverage for these items under the standard policy terms. The fact that the vehicle was equipped with aftermarket mags does not change the necessity of having tyres and wheels for the vehicle to be operational.
I kindly request a reconsideration of the claim based on this perspective. If the factory-fitted tyres and wheels were ******, they should be covered under the policy, as they are integral to the vehicle's functionality.
Thank you for your understanding and attention to this matter. I look forward to your favorable response.
