DO NOT INSURE WITH DISCOVERY INSURE

Never ever insure with Discovery Insure. My son aged 18, had an unfortunate accident on the 27th April 2018. I was sadly, insured with Discovery Insure. They duly issued me a claim number, and then arranged for me to take the vehicle to Pro-Line Sandhurst and the nightmare began. The vehicle was booked in on the 8th May 2018. Note that Discovery Insure, give you a 7 working ay guarantee for the work to the car to be completed. What a joke. After a couple of weeks of dancing around my phone calls, and making one poor woman who works there (who had just started) go almost out of her mind trying to help me. Eventually they agreed to loan us a car. Some time later I got a call from the manager at Pro-Line who explained to me that the vehicle had failed their quality control and he was going to have to phone Discovery to get authorisation for ‘genuine’ parts. I – and I am sure – most of the public who insure with Discovery didn’t know this. They kept *****footing around, and eventually when the car had failed their quality control THREE times, I insisted they get a safety report on the car from Suzuki South Africa, which they did. And they paid. They assured me they had attended to everything on Suzuki’s list. Stupid me. I should have sent it back to Suzuki South Africa to check. At the end of the day, they took a total of 31 WORKING days to get our car back to us. On the 13th June 2018, I collected the car. All seemed fine. Suddenly yesterday I noted that the bumper (part of the repair) was now sticking out and the little lugs had come off their sliders. I then took the car to Suzuki’s preferred panelbeater, who gave me horrifying news. The paint job was so poor, he said it’ll have to be done again. The whole front bumper alignment was out, the fog light was not replaced correctly and on and on and on. I now want Discovery Insure to escalate this before I do. I am now in the unfortunate position that my son is due to leave for Cape Town on Monday, to begin his term at UCT. Today after throwing my toys out of the cot with Discovery they eventually gave me a number for a lady who deals with any disputes between client and service provider. Naturally, no answer. Let me be clear : I want this car reassessed, at Suzuki’s preferred service provider, so I need an assessor AND a representative from Discovery, urgently. The alternative is that Discovery delays, in which case, they must provide me with a replacement car for Monday’s trip, and once the Suzuki is correctly repaired, they must then pay to entrain the vehicle to UCT. I must add that I was told the excess of R 3 800, but Pro-Life Sandton handed me a R 0 excess letter. I assumed it was to compensate me for their dreadful service. Obviously both the service provider and Discovery then made an attempt to collect the excess. I have e-mails of the poor lady who did all she could to help me, being threatened with either being fired, or having the amount deducted off her salary, both of which are *******. And she didn’t sign a letter to that effect when she started there. Discovery. This was a slimy episode that I never ever again wish to endure.

Honestly, I am disgusted. Never, ever again.

So to follow on from my story... I got a call yesterday morning from a man called 'Tommy'. Tommy did not give his surname, and explained he was the person liaising with customers when ever they were unhappy with services rendered by one f their preferred service providers. After much discussion, he explained it would be better to have the car fixed as soon as possible in Johannesburg. To that end, he said, an assessor would call. I thanked him and asked him how I would get hold of him again. Tommy promised to send an e-mail. The assessor phoned once, during the one minute I was away from my phone. I tried phoning back, four times. Every single option I was asked to pick just range and rang. No actual person in sight. And of course, no e-mail from Tommy, who I don't know how to find, since his office number that he dialled from simply fails and fails and obviously doesn't take calls. So here we are. Thursday afternoon late, and back in exactly the same situation I was in on Tuesday. No progress at all. Shame on your Discovery. So many promises made, so little answered.
