Do not bully me into changing insurers over the phone without a written quote
On Monday 18 May 2020 I got a call from a gentleman (Errol or Earl I think) who went through the whole process of doing a comparative quote for my insurance. After being put onto their underwriter and going through the process again, I asked for a quote to be sent to me via email as I needed to speak to my financial advisor.
They informed me that they could not provide me with a written quote as they didn't want me taking the quote to my current insurer. (even though they told me the premium they would charge). I told them that I would not be able to make a decision over the phone as I needed to speak to my advisor. Only to be told that the premium they had worked out for me was only valid for that day. So I told them no.
After speaking to my advisor I have discovered that they are obligated to give me a written quote and that saying it was only valid for that day was *********.
I'd like to warn others that you do not have to accept a quote over the phone because they are pressurising you. Big mistakes can be made by saying "yes" without reading the fine print.
So, Discovery Insure, please inform your staff that they are making incorrect and highly ********* statements to potential customers.
