Do no use Discovery Insure
Poorest service and experience I have ever been exposed to in my life.
Here is my story.
Logged a claim for "Random chips and Dents".
The assessor at the panel beater asked what happened and I told him there are multiple chips and dents from stones hitting my car on the highway and various others I had no idea how they occurred. He walked around the car and loaded everything he could see and we even debated potential incidents that may have caused them i.e. Someone opening their car door or a trolley.
The claim was loaded ane soon after the Discovery assessor phoned asking what happened. I told him about the most recent incident where stones hit my car from a truck, but I could not verify what stones hit where and that its multiple incidents over time. The person on the phone was not listening but rather following systematic prompts to try to get details for any specific incident.
Admittedly I should have done more research and know that they do not cover dents and chips and that it would have to be a specific incident.
With a lot of back and forth with the assessor trying to probe into details I did not have I was unfortunately in an accident. A car crashed into the back of me at a red robot while I was stationary.
After this incident, I received a letter from Discovery stating that my policy has been retrospectively cancelled from the date the first claim was loaded and the they would not entertain the 2nd claim.
Their reason was that I was misrepresenting information and inflating a claim. They also pointed out that the inflation of the claim was due to the fact that one of the many incidents I could recall happened a long time ago. The incidents I referred to on the phone I made very clear that they are MULTIPLE INCIDENTS THAT OCCURED OVER TIME. In hindsight, I should have been smarter and realised that there line of questioning with me was just to try catch me out on details I could not provide. They intention was never to advise that it had to be one incident in the last 30 days for it to be valid, instead, they dragged the process along when they could have simply advised me properly in the beginning as to why you cannot claim multiple incidents over time.
The long and short is that they left me uninsured without my knowledge while they dragged the process out without advising me adequately. Unfortunately for me, I was in an accident with extensive damage to my car only to find after the fact they would not cover me.
Admittedly again, I should have read the contract and seen how they were trying to entrap me, but I honestly believed they would have my best interest at heart and advise me. I was honest in everything i said but they turned that honesty into a reason to call me a *****.
I am willing to share all the recordings with you should you wish to validate. The assessor also admitted on a call that he understood it was multiple incidents over time but loaded it on the system as one incident.
I am mainly sharing this story here for awareness, be careful and do not assume they have your best interests at heart and will advise you adequately. They will do anything to get out of a claim and leverage every clause in the contract. I was honestly naive and honest, and they used that to cancel my contract and leave me stranded with a banged-up car and difficulty finding insurance elsewhere.
