Discovery: Where Customer Service Goes to Die

@Discovery_SA I am extremely disappointed with the lack of support and accountability from your team regarding my insurance claim.

Despite repeated emails explaining the situation—caused by the actions of your own representatives—I’ve received no proper acknowledgment, no clarity, and no fair dispute process.

I’ve been met with silence and poor service. As a paying client, I deserve transparency, ethical conduct, and basic respect.

This experience has been beyond frustrating, and if this is how Discovery treats its clients, I will be reconsidering my options and advising others to do the same.

Dear Discovery Claims Department,

I am writing to formally dispute the rejection of my recent claim relating to the failure of my gate motor. I must emphasize in the strongest terms that I will not accept the denial of this valid claim, which appears to be based on incomplete assessments and serious procedural shortcomings.

The sequence of events is as follows:

Initial Inspection: Upward Spiral inspected the motor and advised they would submit a report directly to Discovery.

On-Site Assessment: A representative from Discovery visited my property, in the presence of both myself and my wife, took no more than two photos, and failed to engage in any meaningful assessment of the damage. Instead, the focus appeared to shift toward identifying that my property was underinsured and promoting additional policy coverage.

Unidentified Vendor: Subsequently, another service provider—whose identity was never disclosed—arrived without proper identification, used a phone light to inspect the motor under poor conditions, and provided no formal documentation. This conduct does not meet any professional standard of evaluation.

Following these events, I was informed that the claim was being rejected on the basis that the gearbox failed due to "wear and tear." I strongly dispute this and request immediate clarification on the following:

1. Lack of Gearbox Assessment: No technician opened or evaluated the gearbox. Their involvement was limited to replacing the computer board and checking voltage. The conclusion of wear and tear is unsubstantiated.

2. Inadequate Communication: At no point was I properly consulted about the motor’s condition during the inspection. Instead, efforts were made to upsell additional insurance rather than conduct a proper technical assessment.

3. Failure to Respond: I have made numerous attempts to contact the assessor via email, SMS, and telephone, all of which have gone unanswered. This lack of communication is unacceptable and violates basic service standards.

4. Vendor Misconduct: The secondary inspector, Rodney, suggested unauthorized work be done “off the record” and advised I not inform my assessor—an ********* and potentially ******* recommendation. He also claimed there was oil leakage from the gearbox. In fact, what he referred to as “oil” was grease. Was any sample collected and tested to confirm his claim?

If Discovery intends to stand by the rejection of this claim, I request the following by close of business today:

A formal written response addressing all points raised above.

Full copies of all inspection reports, including any documentation related to the gearbox evaluation.

Should a resolution not be reached, I will escalate this matter through all available internal and external dispute resolution channels. I am even willing to undergo a polygraph test to confirm the gate motor failed following recent heavy rains in KZN. If your assessors maintain their conclusions, I expect them to be equally willing to provide their findings under oath and confirm the inspections were thorough and legitimate.

I trust that Discovery will treat this dispute with the seriousness and transparency it warrants.

Discovery- stop trying to hide the wrong. It's a nightmare to get a hold of you guys. Its a nightmare to get a response. Every agent says 30 days turnaround time. Lol. Pull out the recordings, pull out the evidence for your rejection. Prove to me that the technicians assessed the part they advised is the problem because I prove it was not checked. Read the above response carefully to understand.
