Discovery says wait until you get home from your travels abroad before you can get your phone replaced!

Hi, I had the misfortune to fall into a deep hole with my phone in my pocket while on holiday in New Zealand. My husband reported this to Discovery, but I am told that I have to continue my travelling with no phone/camera and have it attended to when I get back! May I ask why we have overseas insurance (they ask that we inform them when we go overseas), but are happy for a traveler to continue with no phone. Either I need to purchase one while I am here (and get another one when I get home from the insurance - or I go without and return home to get my replacement. Both choices are a bit crazy. Surely there are better procedures in place than this such as being paid out so that I can purchase another one and hand in my damaged phone on return?? My husbands is ***. He is in SA dealing with it.
