Discovery, NO EXCESS NO, SERVICE

I placed a claim on the 5 January 2023 for a damaged hob and oven. This is fixed as it is part of the building. My building is insured at 1 million and to date I have not heard from Discovery except for a few one line emails from Yolane who apparently is handling my claim. On the 9 January an electrician had come in and assessed the hob/oven and had confirmed with me that it was indeed damaged. To date I have received no correspondence. Discovery offers a no excess policy (which I have). Do not, I repeat do not be fooled by this. You might as well pay the excess and get a turnaround time of 72 hours from one of their major competitors who I have had the pleasure of working with previously. This is the second time that they have done this to me. And when you cancel, they want to know why. Surely they must know why. Pay a few Rands extra, and you will receive professional services which discovery is surely lacking.

So I got a response from Discovery insure who says it's wear and tear. That is not the case. I know what I'd wrong with my oven and hob. They send their own assessors to evaluate who they probably pay. I repeat, DO NOT use Discovery. They are *********** and look for ways of getting out of paying. I strongly advise that if I a policy consider canceling before you in a situation like this. This is unacceptable!

I write this to express my utter dissatisfaction with the service I received from Discovery insure. On the 3 January my oven and hob stopped working. I called discovery and spoke to a consultant. When I told her about the issue she said it was accidental damage and logged it as such. I didn’t understand how something like that would be accidental damage but I thought, what do I know

In any case they sent a guy over on the 9 January 2022. The guy looked at the oven, then turned one dial for one plate of the hob (which tripped the circuit) and concluded it was wear and tear. Firstly, all four plates are not working. They are burnt out. I’m not sure how by turning a dial one can come to the conclusion that it is wear and tear and by looking at the oven conclude that the element was burnt out, without even opening anything to check how it was damaged. After the 9 January I received no further communication.

After I placed a review on Hello Peter, automatically I was now given priority. On the 13 January Gontse Moteane tried calling me but I was having network issues. However, I called back and was put on hold for 20 minutes just to be told it was wear and tear. I asked to speak to a manager and I was put on hold again when I eventually cut the call. How the electrician deduced it was wear and tear is beyond my comprehension. Thereafter I mentioned cancelling the insurance and asked to be put through to cancellation. The consultant said that he will transfer me to cancellation. What type of consultant would rather lose a client than try and resolve the issue? What makes matters worse, together with my car I’m paying a premium of almost R 3000-00.

Due to a power outage, my TV had stopped working. At that point I was insured with Outsurance. Within 1Hour the issue was resolved and I was given a new TV in Literally 72 hours. Now that is called service!

This has infuriated me, and I am hoping that this email does not fall on deaf ears.
