Discovery lies and does not pay claims, left with R100k bill
My mother's car was damaged negligence by a panel beater that Discovery Insure had sent her to. The car did not have any mechanical issues but merely had to fix the under cover that had come loose. After taking the care to this Durban South Panel and Paint, the car was kept for a much longer time than we had expected, and we were then told that they had also fixed the radiator. A few days after receiving the car back, it started overheating on the freeway, and after succeeding to safely get to a service station we discovered pipes had been left unclasped and all the water had spilled and that's why the car was having an issue. We immediately reported to Discovery Insure what had happened and were simply told to take the car back to the panel beater on our own without them as insurers getting in contact with these guys. The panel beater would then take the vehicle, keep it for a few hours and say they fixed the issue and write a report saying everything is fine. The car, however, was not fine and progressively became worse. It would have issues with starting or not start at all, and other mechanical issues all of which we reported to Insurance and each time were told to go to the panel beater up until we eventually took the car to Hyundai and refused to take it back until the issues had been fixed as the car now had a blown gasket. Discovery then initiated an investigation, and we were told this investigation would determine who had to pay for the damages on the car between Discovery and the panel beater. After giving us the run around for over a month, with no communication unless we called Discovery colluded with Durban South Panel and Paint by taking false reports and asking the very same people who had damaged the car for their expertise advise, and having a first and second assessor working the case the insurance rejected the claim by lying and saying the issue had been that the car had been driven without coolant when the car had returned from a service a few weeks before going to the panel beater. My mom was then left without a vehicle and what we thought would be a R30k bill as apparently the warranty had been wavered when the third party fixed the car . We managed to raise the R30k and took the car into Hyundai, and have now received a bill of R104327. 30 that needs to be paid for the car to be fixed as the engine has been affected. We are of the belief that Discovery Insure assessor saw the extent of the damage and that is why they made up lies to reject the claim. I have made a review before, and all that the insurance did was have a lady call and told us to relay the story then she said we must try and appeal and that was it, essentially no help was offered at all with regards to our case. We are pleading with anyone who can assist with legal expertise or has faced the same dilemma to get in touch(***). We'll also take the matter to various social media platforms to garner assistance as there is no way Discovery Insure can expect us to pay such a huge amount, then what was the point of having insurance. My mother's mental health has already severely deteriorated from the time this whole saga began and she now lives on anxiety medication let alone the inconvenience of going from having a perfectly working car to now struggling to commute to work. She keeps getting one blow after the other, a lot of which could have been avoided if the insurance had done the right thing
