DISCOVERY INSURE: WORST INSURANCE COMPANY IN SOUTH AFRICA

We have been Discovery Insure clients for the last 4-5 years.

Discovery Insure, same as all the Discovery products/companies have a plethora of hoops for their clients to jump through in order to receive so-called rewards or benefits.

One such hoop is to have at least 2 claim-free years before you can earn Vitality Drive Points for Claim-Free years.

So during Feb 2020 a guy drives into the back of my car. It is 100% his fault (he just did not stop and rammed my vehicle from behind). He is also a Discovery Insure client, coincidentally. I lodge a claim for the damages to my car, it gets fixed and on we go.

On 1 September this year, I park my car at my son's school and the lady next to me opens the door to her Toyota Fortuner, slams the door into the side of my car and damages my vehicle. We exchange details (the lady is an Outsurance client), I take pictures and I call Discovery Insure.

Muimeleli Rambuda, from Discovery Insure, advises me to lodge the claim with Discovery Insure as per normal. Then Discovery Insure will close the claim from their end and then pursue the recovery of the damages from Outsurance. So that is what I do. Ms Rambadu also confirms to me on the phone that this will not affect my Claim-Free years as the claim will only be opened and then closed again and because Discovery Insure will recover the damages from Outsurance.

As of today (22 September 2021) the following has happened: 1. Discovery has cancelled my Claim-Free years points that I have been earning for the last 12 months. 2. They have closed my claim for the damages to my car by the Outsurance client. 3. There is no recovery being pursued on my behalf by Discovery Insure from Outsurance. 4. I have raised multiple queries (in excess of 12) wrt to the above - and every time it is assigned to a different person from Discovery Insure, and he/she gives me a one liner answer per email. 5. Not once has a claims manager or anyone with any authority phoned me to discuss any of this.

So they cancel my benefits, but they provide no feedback or assistance in getting my car repaired or recovering any damages.

Discovery Insure is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Bar none. They actively work against their own policyholders.
