Discovery Insure - Vitality drive sensors info used to not pay accident claims
We have recently moved over to Discovery Insure having been with them before. We where required to fit tracking devices to our vehicles using their Vitality drive App. The problem comes in that they way these devices where sold to us as a mandatory requirement i.e. Can detect a accident when you might not be in a position to get emergency services out AND the cashback rewards system for good behaviour has all now been over shaddowed by the following fact:
Accredited panelbeaters have confirmed with me that they are seeing more and more accident claims from Discovery being repudiated/not paid out due to the trackers information that is used against the driver.
One such incident the person was side swiped from the side by car that didn't stop and because this person was 5-10km over the speed limit and the accident happened at no fault of their own, the claim was rejected.
This seems very unfair, and no where online can one get a clear statement from Discovery on this matter. Yet Panelbeaters are seeing these devices tracking information being used against the policy holder.
Could you please clarify what exactly is meant by "We may use the information
for general risk management and underwriting purposes to
make sure that you receive the best cover possible"
From what I have heard the assessors simply come out to the vehicle at the panel beaters retrieve the DQ tracker data and if anything is out of bounds the claim gets declines.
I'm not prepared to be declined if I pay to be insured for accidents AND Discovery basicaly forces me to have this DQ tracker else they wont insure me......something I pay for in addition to my normal insuarence premium
