DISCOVERY INSURE / NET ASSESS INCOMPETENCE

I was involved in a reckless and negligent, hit and run incident on the M7 and was fortunate enough to follow the truck involved that raced on at high speed. Over 20km later he pulled into a filling station where his employer was waiting. After talking with the owner and getting all contact details and the owner committing to pay for repairs, I left and went to the nearest police station and reported the incident. I then went straight to my panel beater who done a quote on the vehicle with all damages visible. As the owner of the truck had committed to paying for repairs, I went home and secured all lose panels, headlight and side mirror so that I could still drive the vehicle safely.

I then contacted Discovery informing them of the incident and that the owner of the truck had committed to pay for the damages. After emailing the owner of the truck, without success, for a week, with no response, I submitted a claim to Discovery. Discovery requested me to take my vehicle for an assessment at their panel beater, which was accessed by Net Assess. The Assessor did not do a thorough assessment, as he could not see all the damage as I secured loose panels etc. Discovery are now disputing the original quote and will not entertain another quote with the vehicle stripped for a thorough assessment.

FYI the quote from my panel beater was around R56k, and Discovery are saying that their Assessor only calculated R21k.

The vehicle is currently at my Panel Beater, stripped and awaiting a thorough assessment. Discovery refuses to entertain it any further. I was the innocent victim of this accident, who went out of his way to catch the guilty party. Discovery should be able to claim for any repairs directly from the Owner of the truck or his Insurance Company. I do not understand as to why I need to be treated as the guilty party and not have my vehicle repaired to its original condition. I have been without a vehicle for the past 6 weeks now.

I will never recommend Discovery Insurance to anybody again.
