Discovery Insure & JL Panelbeaters (Margate)

I am extremely disappointed with the conduct of JL Panelbeaters (Margate) and the lack of response from Discovery Insure, despite attempts to resolve this matter.

After my vehicle accident on 11 May 2025, JL Panelbeaters towed my Toyota Hilux while Discovery was still assessing the claim. During the period that the vehicle was in their custody, they performed unauthorised work, including: • Removing my new battery (purchased January 2025) without permission and replacing it with an old battery • Stripping the diesel tank without any authorisation from me or the insurer • Failing to replace the bolts of the diesel tank, leaving the vehicle in an unsafe state • Providing no explanation or documentation for any of these actions

When a representative from JL Panelbeaters was later sent to return the battery at Bronik Panelbeaters (where the car is now being repaired), he failed to address the diesel tank issue and gave no clear explanation.

Despite sending a detailed written complaint to both Discovery Insure and JL Panelbeaters, I have received no acknowledgement, no investigation, and no accountability from either party.

Even though my claim was eventually rejected on the basis of alleged speed, all of these unauthorised actions occurred before the claim decision, while JL Panelbeaters was acting under Discovery’s instruction. This raises serious concerns about: • Lack of oversight • Consumer safety • Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles • The conduct of Discovery’s appointed service providers

Consumers deserve transparency, accountability, and professionalism. Unfortunately, I have not received any from either Discovery Insure or JL Panelbeaters
