DISCOVERY INSURE - INCREASING PREMIUMS ON FALSE CLAIM

On Friday 28.09.2018, I received a letter from Discovery Insure, very diplomatically notifying me that they have reviewed my application (after approving my vehicle insurance and debiting me for the last 6 months), it seems I did not declare a claim that I made in the last 3 years with my previous insurer, when asked by the consultant. I was a little taken back, but more than that humiliated. Firstly, I never made a claim in the 4 years I was with Dial Direct, what I did do was call in and query if it is possible to claim for lost car keys, the consultant explained that the excess will be the same (being R4000), my response was, "thank you very much, but i would rather cut a new set of keys, if i don't find my existing one". To Discovery Insure, this is deemed a claim. According to the Ombudsman a claim is deemed a formal request to an insurance company for coverage or compensation for a covered loss or policy event. The insurance company validates the claim and, once approved, issues payment to the insured or an approved interested party on behalf of the insured. None of this ever happened. no payment, no damage to my vehicle, no incident, JUST A QUERY. When i called Discovery Insure, their response was, "well a query is a claim", the other response was, "please get a non claim bonus letter from your previous insurer and we will help you". In the meantime, they have already increased my premium, amended my policy schedule and blacklisted me as a **** to other insurance companies. IN MY OPINION THIS IS SUCH A **** TO GET MORE MONEY, and lack of work from Discovery's side to do a full investigation and get their story right, before damaging a persons name.
