I have held both motor and property insurance for over four decades thus had experience of a variety of service providers in the industry. I have been with Discovery Insurance via their administrative arm FGRO for just under one year. Initially I was a little sceptical of the various promises made by FGRO on including highly competitive premiums and little-to-zero Excess Payment commitments.

Now almost one year on, following two major winter storms, with associated tree collapses, as well as a massive electrical spike, we have the measure of how well Discovery handles such claims. Thus, in all three claims both Xolani and Sibongile were exemplary in their kind, efficient and friendly management of the multiple damages which had resulted from these disastrous separate events. Thus, shattered roof sectors of both cottage & Wendy house, broken lighting, fallen fencing (40m) and the cutting and clearing of trees already fallen as well as removal of those (urgent) ones threatening to topple were all supported. In terms of electric spike numerous gate and garage door motors were replaced (six in all) as well as repairs to both interior electrical fitting & fixtures as well as damage to an exterior cable (50m) and irrigation mechanics and electronics were all supported without demur. When they were unable to identify local service providers I was allowed to nominate alternatives. If repairs seamed impractical or subject to -delay I was offered cash in lieu of the likely repair.

Also, no complaints were made when claimed expenses suffered delays due to late manifestation of damages. Thus an exterior cable fault was only identified well after the causal surge but could only be identified as such well after the event.
