Discovery Insure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Apple Corporation gets a big fat MINUS 50000 stars from me. I purchased a brand new fully paid upfront Macbook Pro to the value of R23 000 in October 2019. It went very well for the first 2 months until one evening while watching a Netflix series, my screen suddenly got horizontal green lines on it. In a panic, I googled how to stop it to find ENDLESS articles about this fault in their products.

Needless to say, this is just one fault I have experienced with their products. The quality of their screens are not made for everyday people. Furthermore, the ongoing pursuit to keep up with their enduring upgrades and accessories in their efforts to make you rely on them is pitiful. My hopes are very high for a Product that can replace Apple.

The very next day, a Monday, I took my Mac to the Waterfront Technical support to assess my laptop, the technician assured me that their was no extarnal damage to the laptop that would cause the internal screen damage, and that I would have feedback within the next 2-5 working days with a cer*****y of having the laptop replaced. They did however kindly assist with a loan computer for the time being. I reiterated to him that I am leaving to visit family for Christmas on the Friday.

On this Friday 13 December, I received feedback from Ryan Arendse stating that the lack of communication was because of “If any of the information in incorrect it would be an error when you were filling in the iPad whilst completing the job card.” Yet they had all my correct information. And that “Upon inspection at the service centre, they have advised that your machine Failed the Apple assessment and therefore you were quoted ( Quote attached ).” This of course made no sense to me because if it failed the assessment it was of course a faulty product (no less than two months old) with a quote attached of R13k to replace my screen.

His attitude was unforgiving. I felt unfairly treated so proceeded with a letter of CPA stating that:

Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (“CPA”) makes it an imp**** provision that the producer or importer, the distributor and the retailer each warrant that the Laptop complies with the requirements and standards as set out in section 55 of the CPA. In terms of the CPA, if the Laptop fails to satisfy the requirements and standards contemplated in section 55 thereof, I am entitled within 6 (six) months after the delivery of the Laptop to return it to you without penalty and at your risk and expense, to request you to replace the defective Laptop with a new one.

This was quickly dismissed and the focus was on getting their Loan computer back threatening legal pursuits.

WORST EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!

My last option, was to claim from my insurance - DISCOVERY. Which have only been a pleasure since I have been with them over 15 years.

Upon my first phone call to them, Wednesday 26 February - within minutes, Andre Engelbrecht, Direct Claims Consultant – General Non-Motor Claims, took my phone call and actually listened to what I had to say.

Andre’s support was so comforting and refreshing to what I had experienced with Apple. His assistance is praise-worthy, he acknowledged me as a human and not a just a consumer. And even made me laugh given the situation.

Today, Tuesday 3 March, less than a week later, Andre had arranged to have my faulty laptop collected from my house via courier, assessed the laptop with coherent feedback that it needs to be replaced and not repaired. Collected quotes of replacement (all the while keeping me promptly updated) and issued me with a voucher for the the Apple store to the value it was purchased at.

This is 10 STAR SERVICE. This is not average. This is not “acceptable”. This is service that paramounts any other experience I have had.

I trust my life, my assets, my money and faith in Discovery.

With gratitude to Discovery and Andre Engelbrecht, thank you for the reassurance good ethics are still out there, Hassle free. Simone
