Discovery Insure - Don't Insure with Them
<div>We have been loyal clients of Discovery Insure for over five years. Following the June floods in the Western Cape, our swimming pool exhibited structural issues, prompting us to file a legitimate claim after engaging a specialized pool expert for damage assessment. Subsequently, Discovery Insure enlisted a service provider (not an assessor) to evaluate the damage. Upon notification of the claim, we were contacted by the service provider, who requested photographs of the damage via WhatsApp. However, we refrained from complying, as we believed an on-site assessment was necessary. Upon reaching out to Discovery Insure to express our concerns, they dispatched another service provider (once again, not a qualified assessor) from ++++, known for minor pool repairs. Regrettably, this service provider's approach to repairing the pool deviated significantly from the correct method. Notably, their proposed solution involved reusing broken coping materials, reflecting a substandard and unprofessional response to the extent of the damage. On July 1, 2023, Ntabi from Discovery Insure called to confirm that our pool damage resulted from the floods, as validated by their service provider. However, we contested the proposed repair method. Ntabi assured us of further discussion with his manager but failed to follow up. On July 10, we received a rejection letter, citing the service provider's claim that the pool did not adhere to guidelines, requiring a concrete layer beneath our paving. When we requested ++++' qualifications and accreditations, we were denied citing the POPI Act. However, as a company, this information should be publicly accessible. We sought the opinion of another pool specialist who contradicted Discovery's findings, emphasizing that even SANS building regulations do not mandate a screed layer under the pool's surrounding paving. Furthermore, the June floods in Cape Town were officially declared a National Disaster. Having escalated the matter to the Ombudsman, we were advised that we have a legitimate case for legal action. In light of these circumstances, we are prepared to initiate litigation if Discovery Insure is unwilling to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve this matter. We propose a round table discussion to address our concerns and reach an equitable resolution In short, don't Insure with Discovery Insure they will only cost you money, go to an insurance company that offers you the cover that they stipulate and use accredited assessors with the knowledge to do the assessments, otherwise you will be sitting with major losses like we do.</div>
I appreciate your prompt response to our previous communication and acknowledge your sentiments regarding our feedback on the quality of service provided.
Regrettably, I find the response somewhat inadequate, mirroring the perceived shortcomings in the depth of coverage offered by your insurance company and the perills you have put in place. Please educate yourselves with your own insurance plan policy on page 27 Under What are you covered for?: floods being one of those claimable covers and what we are claiming damage of. Despite our numerous attempts to amicably resolve the outstanding matter, Discovery Insure has maintained a disconcerting silence. It is disheartening to experience such indifference, particularly as a longstanding customer who has consistently upheld payment obligations.
Over the past 5+ years, we have submitted seven claimable claims, yet only two have been approved, and even those required substantial effort. The adversarial approach encountered during the claims process and the apparent predisposition to find reasons for non-payment have left a lasting impression.
In the interest of fostering a fair resolution and maintaining a positive customer relationship, I kindly request that you engage with us directly. I have made genuine efforts to address this matter amicably and believe that a more personalized approach is necessary. I encourage you to reach out to me via email or telephone to discuss how we can rectify this situation.
I trust that actions will indeed speak louder than words, and I look forward to a constructive and mutually beneficial resolution.
Sincerely,
Rohan
