Discovery Insure did not stipulate pirate parts in policy document!!
My Toyota Fortuner has been insured with Discovery Insure for a number of years. There was a collision recently and I am comprehensively insured according to my policy document. Discovery Insure has indicated that they will repair the vehicle but can only do so using secondhand/locally sourced or pirated parts. They also say that this is acceptable and a directive from the Ombudsmen due to the car being out of warranty.
The problem is that the terms and conditions of my policy document does not state this at all (I read it thoroughly). At no point whatsoever have I been notified of this 'special condition' and my policy document does not stipulate this anywhere. I have been under the impression that I am insuring an original Toyota Fortuner so should I be in an accident I will have parts replaced that are original/genuine Toyota parts. Even if Discovery Insure is correct in stating that they have a directive from the Ombudsmen to use locally sourced parts to do repairs when the car is outside of its warranty; then I should have been notified by Discovery of this condition and it should be stated in my policy document should it not? Discovery call centre agent (Darren Okkers) stated that this is the way it is and that I can Google the number for the ombudsmen and that I (the Client) did not ask Discovery when I insured my car if they will use genuine parts or not in the future when my car may no longer be in warranty so this is all actually my fault. Shocking! You ask to speak to a manager, this does not happen and you hold on for long periods while the consultant speaks to the manager to tell you that you can basically go fly a kite, this is what will happen. Nice!
