Discovery Insure - Bad Experience at the hands of poorly trained onboarding agent
On Friday, I was browsing Discovery Insure's online site and entered my details for the so-called online insurance quote ... "get a quote in 60 seconds" is their punchline. Be that as it may be ... the site purposefully (in my estimation) does not permit one to enter correct details prompting a call from their "onboarding team" call centre. I have no issue with this.
I explained to the gentleman who called me that I was unable to enter my proper address and that the quote that I had received online was using an incorrect address and that I would not be interested in paying more than double for car insurance than what I am currently paying. For context I reside in a security estate whilst the address for the quote was for a "free standing house"
Fair enough, he said that he could help me, however the process would take a few minutes for the new quote, I initially told him that I wasnt interested, however he pleaded with me and I indulged him but requested that he calls me today (13 Jan 2025) at 10h00. Needless to say 10h00 came and went and he eventually called me just before 12. As I was about to go into a meeting, we agreed that he should call me at 4pm this afternoon.
The gentleman called me at approx 4pm, and after us exchanging the standard pleasantries (greetings) he then proceeded by stating that we should continue with the quote that he had started. He had not started any quote. I reminded him that I was not interested in the quote that I had received on Friday and that I had told him this. He then proceeded to enquire what I am currently paying and on telling him the amount he rep**** that they Discovery could never quote that amount and then hastily ended the call. Why waste time or plead to assist me when I explained to you on Friday that I would never accept the quote. You made me believe that we were going to start a new quote from scratch. How do you know that I would not see the benefit of paying slightly more whilst taking advantage of Discovery's value added services. You never sold me on Discovery, you just said that Discovery couldnt match what I am currently paying after I told you on Friday that the quote was more than double than what I am paying with Momentum Insure with a lower excess and car-hire included nogal!!
If the quote which is more than double than my current premium is the amount that you would have quoted me then it proves that the so called add ons are merely gimmicks that the client pays for ..."get R500 off your fuel spend ...after paying R1000 extra on your premium.." makes sense to Discovery...
Perhaps I should be more appreciative that he has put me off Discovery as I was going to move everything across to their "ecosystem."
Perhaps you have inadvertently done me a favour, however in future you shouldn't plead with a prospective customer for the opportunity to quote, especially after the customer has already stated that the quote is more than double than what the client is paying, and then proceed to be less than friendly when the customer reminds you once again that he (or she) is not interested in that quote. You were the one who stated "bless you..." on Friday and today it was "F you - you simpleton time waster who does not want to pay more than double for his car insurance..."
Out of respect for you ...I wont reveal your name herein ...however if Discovery shares this with you ...I hope that you take heed of what I have taken the trouble to write here.... Thanks again for reminding me why I am with Momentum.
