Discovery Insure - always trying to avoid paying claims!

After strong winds and an incredible amount of rain in Cape Town our roof started leaking. Discovery sent out an assessor and discovery rejected the claim saying it was "maintenance related". The assessor did not even climb onto the roof to view the tiles. We have solar panels on the roof so a large area is not visible from a ladder propped up against the roof which is where he took his photos from. After my husband went on the roof it was clear that tiles around the the solar panels have shifted and gaps have opened due to the wind/heavy rain. The assessor would have seen this had he climbed on to the roof. The roof has been maintained and we have invoices to show this and yet the claim was still rejected. Having read other posts it seems Discovery often tries to avoid paying claims by stating they are "maintenance" issues. What is the point of having comprehensive cover which includes damage due to rain if they are not willing to cover this? A very unhappy client!

My parents are also currently dealing with a rejected claim for a different issue - they never had these issues with Outsurance. So rejections seem to be standard and approvals limited.

I tried to call a few times this morning to discuss how I can dispute this but every time I got through to the “next available consultant” will help you the line cut out. I will try again on Monday.
