Disaster Discovery Insure!!
During the weekend we had an unfortunate incident when a large Guinea Fowl flew into our windscreen as it tried to cross the road. There was a really bad wind which made the incident more likely to happen as we could not swerve out of time due to wet weather.Luckily our vehicle windshield is equiped with the original factory Shatterproof windshield and it did not explode on impact and caused any harm to me or my family including my 2 children as it did what it is suppose to do and shatter.
When I called Discover Insure early this morning to inform them they confirmed that I was indeed covered for Windshield replacement with an Excess of R 750 as I am a Discovery Premium member.
Then when I did the online quote using the Discovery online app, I was quoted an excess of R 3800.00? When I called in to query the massive variance they indicated that it was a system error. I then asked what the next steps were and they indicated that I must choose a glass fit centre. I nominated GLassFit in Wynberg as they are down the road from them.
I was informed that my claim has been authorised and I can proceed to GlassFit. When I arrived at Glassfit the sales person told me that the claim was NOT approved as Discovery ONLY cover AFTER MARKET Windshields.
I then proceeded to waste more money on cellphone calls and after eventually speaking to a team Leader they informed me that there is nothing they can do. At the same time I was afford a quotes from the ambagsman and goverment gazette???
Now I pay a fortune in insurance as I have 3 vehicles insured by them and this is not what I expected. My family health is my only concern and I will not accept a AFTER MARKET product on my Vehicle that has been insured as IS,
Outsurance here I come.! Unhappy Client
Thank you for your comment.
Depending on the circumstances of the case. The age and condition of the vehicle will influence the merits of the claim. Especially if the vehicle is outside of its warranty.
We affirm that Industry approved "aftermarket " parts may be considered provided that they don't compromise the safety and reliability of the vehicle and the workmanship -This is applicable on out of warranty vehicles -.
This being In our efforts to help keep insurance premiums low as the cost of repairs has risen significantly over the years.
The replacement glass quoted on is SABS approved and meets all safety requirements.
We are sorry that you felt inconvenienced during the claim stage and can assure you that your review will assist us in becoming better at what we do.
