Customer service was absolutely frustrating and way below what I expect from Discovery
On the 14th of February 2024, I logged a claim to Discovery insure under home/house contents for an air cooler. My claim was immediately rejected because it falls under building insurance , reason being, when logging the claim I selected "aircon" from their drop down list. I submitted the claim on the Discovery app and on there "aircon" was the closest option I could find related to an air cooler. I also attached an image of the air cooler on the claim. I feel the image should have been used as additional information to determine if the item qualifies for house contents or not instead of just rejeting the claim. There was no other option ,no fan or air cooler on the dropdown options so I selected aircon. I then emailed the consultant for clarity, she said on the email it is not her fault that I logged the claim wrong , even though I tried to explain that was the closest option, I felt she was just not willing to assist. Indeed it was not her fault, but I don't believe this is a language you use with clients. I then reached to the manager who apologised, but offered no futher assistance on the matter, but asked that I keep her and the team leader updated on how my claim goes. Having followed up with the team leader I was told the claim was reopened, with no information or turnaround time on when the matter will be resolved or when I should expect to be contacted on the matter. Thanks to my financial advisor for taking over, a week later I got a call to arrange an assesment. the assessment was done and it turns out the damage is due to electronic component failure which is not covered on my policy. I can accept this, but the service I got from the consultant is unaceptable. I am begging for someone to listen to the call I got today where the consultant advised me of the rejection of the claim and hung up without any "formal sign off" literally just told me the claim is rejected and hung up. I now got a rejection letter that had no signature, zero professionalism what so ever. I am begging for someone to look at this and tell me this is what Discovery stands for and this is the level of service they provide to clients. I can point out quiet a few of their values lacking on this matter. I pray and hope I never have to claim from them again until I find better insurance that will service me like a paying client.
