Caution - Smoke & Mirrors

Please be warned as to how Discovery Insure operate and arrive at "competitive" quotes.

This refers specifically to motor vehicle quotes.

After receiving dozens of calls, I recently opted to take the time to ascertain what Discovery Insure could offer in terms of motor vehicle insurance. After having them try and pull the wool over my eyes, I felt it prudent to caution others.

Their MO is as follows:

1. Obtain vehicle info telephonically 2. Offer and mail you a "competitive" quote and other unnecessary frills - info on the quote will be sketchy at best and, despite questioning the same, they continue to send the same schedule repeatedly. 3. The vehicle quote will depict NO retail value or M&M code relevant to the vehicle(s) you have been quoted on?? 4. They are apparently "not allowed" to share the M&M code and retail value, in writing or on the schedule????? Every other insurer that I know of provides this info as the very basis of your quote and/or schedule? 5. In this particular case, when pressed for the actual retail / risk value of my 2 vehicles that were quoted for....the cumulative risk values were approx. R120 000 less than the current retail insured values.

When I asked to clarify matters with a manager, obviously there was no one "on the floor" at that very time....lol

Be careful folks, these guys are masters at smoke and mirrors. I"m cutting them a very wide berth.

Oh.....seemed to remember watching a Carte Blanche episode some time back on Discovery Insure....very interesting
