Car repairs not concluded over a 10-month period
I have two vehicles insured with Discovery Insure and I've had the worst experience of my life with them over the past 10 months. I had an accident on the 10th of June 2022. The claim was approved immediatey, the vehicle was towed away and car hire was arranged for me. The authorisation of the claim and the car being sent to the body repair service provider took long but it was done eventually.
Because the car could not start due to the accident, it had to be taken to a Land Rover agent for mechanical works before the panelbeaters fixed the body, so it was sent to Land Rover West Rand. Land Rover indicated that there were parts they needed to order from London and that process took about 10 weeks, the car was finally returned to the panelbeater (NewCo Autospray) for fixing and I took delivery of the vehicle on the 18th of October 2022.
On the same day I realised the car had new body scratches and dents that were never there before, but more than anything, it came back with a new mechanical fault (a warning light that reads "water in fuel" which was always followed by the engine cutting off in the middle of the road). I reported the matter to Discovery Insure on the same day and I was informed an assessor would call me, that never happened. When I made follow-ups and spoke to various Claims Specialists I was told Discovery Insure would not cover that as my original claim was for body repairs and not mechanical repairs. A month and about 20 very long calls as well as e-mail exchanges between myself and Discovery Insure later, I was told to send the vehicle back to NewCo Autospray so they could fix the body scratches and get Land Rover to fix the mechanical fault, which I did on the 17th of November 2022.
Fast-foward to April 2023, my car is not back from NewCo Autospray, Land Rover West Rand failed to fix the mechanical problem after keeping the car for three months, it is now with a private auto-electrician. All these months I've had to fight Discovery Insure to extend car hire because I had no car, and today they told me they won't extend car hire, despite the fact that my car is still with their service provider and throught this whole period they've never really made serious efforts to ensure my car is fixed.
