Can't recommend Discovery Insure
Had the unfortunate experience of having to write-off my vehicle.
- The assessment took two weeks, and came to the conclusion that the vehicle was not worth fixing.
- I was told that Discovery would make arrangements with me to collect the original Natis Papers and transfer of ownership form. They never did.
- Frustrated, I sent them the paperwork with my own courier.
- Discovery confirmed receipt of my original docs the next day, but insists that the vehicle must be uplifted first by Auction Nation before they can process the claim.
- It has been 5 days since the confirmation of receipt. Auction Nation still has not uplifted the vehicle or bothered to contact the dealership. Discovery is adamant that the vehicle stock number must be made available before they process the claim.
- Since the assessor already completed their report and the vehicle is deemed a write-off, how the insurer deals with the asset has nothing to do with the policy holder. I reiterate, they have my natis papers and transfer of ownership.
- No Agreement of Loss was ever provided. I struggled to get any feedback from Discovery besides what they'd already told me. Auction Nation still has not yet picked up the vehicle. Discovery uses that as a valid reason to prolong the claim process further.
- At the time of writing, I have been without a vehicle for 3 weeks.
It is quite unfortunate that I have to make my experience public to get their attention - something that could have easily been avoided had they cared about customer service.
For a respectable JSE Top 40 Company to treat one of their loyal customers like a disposal piece of garbage, it requires more than just complacency. There seems to be a widespread "don't make your problems mine" attitude within this organisation. This is just my opinion, but judging by the other comments that I've read here, it seems many customers do echo the same sentiment.
"Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused.
This is not the level of service we uphold and have since escalated the matter with the relevant management team for a resolution with haste.
More will be communicated with you directly.
Regards
Discovery Insure"
Don't hold your breath. I phoned the workshop. Still nothing arranged with a towing company or Auction Nation. No one can confirm when I will receive the Agreement of Loss or settlement. My broker is also at her wits' end. "It usually doesn't take this long" she said.
There is no "escalation of the matter with the relevant management team". Management is too busy hi-fiving themselves in the background for dodging price fixing allegations.
Very well Discovery. Take your time. I'm switching my medical aid as well at the end of this month to return the middle finger.

Discovery Insure should change their name to Discovery Unsure. Their claims dep does not seem to function, and calls/ emails don't get answered/ responded to. No one is calling the shots, and no one wants any responsibility.
Today's headline on News24: " Discovery's profits jump as it carves out additional SA market share"
This is a company that goes for quantity, and not quality. Obtaining new clients and boosting EPS becomes more important than delivering a basic level of customer service. If it looks good on the books, it must be legit, right?
I could go on, but let's keep it short today. Even the auto-response bots don't seem to care anymore.
According to Einstein, "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
Maybe I need to take it up a notch. Twitter, Facebook, Google Reviews, petitions... Do I have the time for that? Probably not. But that's not even a relevant question.
The question we should ask ourselves is this: "Why the F are we trying to figure out HOW to get basic services that we PAID FOR delivered?"
Perhaps I should start a blog to expose the ***** practices of these so-called reputable FSPs. Perhaps I should interview everyone who's had to endure the constant inconvenience and financial losses due to having no transport.
One thing for certain: I will continue writing here until I get my settlement paid.
