Beware of Discovery Insure!

In January 2020 I moved my entire insurance portfolio over to Discovery Insure. Little did I know to what extent I will be compromising myself.

After the move I confirmed telephonically and per email that my vehicles, home owner and home content insurance will be activated immediately. I trusted that Discovery had my back. Months went by. In May I discovered that my home owners insurance was NOT activated. I immediately contacted Discovery. Once again they assured me that they will activate it immediately. In June both my geyser and electronic gate broke down in the same week. Consequently I lodged claims for both. When doing so, I was informed that the home owners insurance was STILL not activated. The advisor suggested that she activates it and I continue the claims. Discovery decided to investigate the claims and for some reason came to the conclusion that I was being dishonest in my claims. I gave my full cooperation and also requested my service providers to do the same.

It is hard for me to express how shocked I am. Not only did they deny the claims, they have cancelled my policies with immediate effect. This, in turn now has the consequence of other insurers not wanting to insure me.

I am planning to take this up with the relevant ombudsman, but meanwhile I am completely uninsured, which can obviously puts me at enormous risk.

I warn fellow customers to be careful of this company who is negligent and ***********, and uncaring. I also put on record that should anything happen to my assets while uninsured (due to their actions) I will take the most extreme measures possible against them, including but not limited to civil litigation and creating greater awareness to warn South Africans to stay away from Discovery.

Please note that all of the above can be proven by emails and recorded phone conversations between me and the call center and all my premiums are up to date.
