Being Cheated as an Discovery Insure Exisiting Client

Initially I was not paying for the tracking devices. I was only paying for the Vitality Drive. I was told that the tracking device was compulsory for my Toyota Tazz but upon the anniversary of my policy, it isn’t compulsory. The Toyota Tazz is considered a high risk vehicle so how come now, the tracking device isn’t compulsory? Current policy premium is R1 409.15. New policy premium R1 732.83 Additional charge as at 1st October, is R130 for the claims penality, yet the claims are not more than R10,000. R160 additional charge is for the 2 tracking devices. I am an existing client so I shouldn’t be paying for the tracking devices. This change in underwriting should affect new clients & not existing clients. I paid R95 for the Tiger Wheel & Tyre multi point check for Vitality Drive points. If I cancel the tracking devices as I can’t afford it, I will lose the funds that I paid which is unfair to me & I feel that I am being ****** as a client. What if I paid for 5+ items to boost the rewards points for Vitality Drive & have to cancel the tracking devices?

Bottom line, Discovery refuses to compensate me in any way & basically said that I will lose the money that I spent to enhance the Vitality Drive benefit. This is a ******* & Discovery Insure is robbing their clients. Please be aware that when you take a policy with Discovery Insure, they waiver fees to get the business & upon the anniversary of the policy, they add new clauses which forces clients to seek other insurances.

Customers, please DO NOT pay to enhance the Vitality Drive reward points as when you cancel, you forfeit your money as the benefits are 12 months. If the policy is cancelled within 12 months of when the benefit was taken, you will lose out!!

Dear Vashnee,

You concerns were raised and acknowledged through our escalation team.

The SVR benefit, which forms part of the Vitality Drive benefit, has always attracted a premium.

A concession had been made at inception of your policy to waive the premium, however not indefinite.

Your policy has come up for its anniversary, which includes re-assessing your risk profile i.e. claims history, item and area risk, inflation costs and so forth, as explained in your anniversary letter.

As part of the Vitality Drive programme you are encouraged to complete Tiger Wheel and Tyre multi-point check and many other Vitality Drive exercises in order increase your potential cash back reward.

Should you cancel the tracking device option, you are cancelling one aspect of the Vitality Drive benefit, not the entire benefit, however we would not be able to track your driving behaviour, and as a result you would not be making full use of the programme.

We offer an alternative type of DQ device, which is the smartphone enabled device, should you opt for this option you would still be able to earn points for your driving behaviour.

Regards,

Discovery Insure
