Bad workmenship

Dear hello Peter, Later December last year i made a claim with discovery insurance to repair my six months old Toyota Rav4 which was damaged by my gate. Discovery Insurance sent my vehicle to Durban panel beaters.

After sometime at the panel shop, my car was returned to me with a dent on the back door that they repaired, overspray and a new scratch on the petrol tank area. The black panel on the boot lid was wiped with chemicals that created a dull spot. The vehicle was then sent back to Durban panel beaters in January to rectified the damages.

After the second attempt the dent was still there and an additional dent at the bottom of the door. Due to Durban panel beaters negligences there was a now a new area on the rear back fender that was resprayed. The panel shop tried to cover their negligence but the workmenship was so poor that I was able to see and question why my right rear fender was resprayed. Durban panel beaters did confess to this in an email with no apology. There was a dripping paint job on the front passenger door. In February, after requesting to Discovery Insurance to send us to a new panel shop, we were asked to give Durban panel beaters a third chance and was promised that things will go differently. Trusting discovery insurance and Netassess consultants I sent my SUV to Durban panel beaters for the 3rd time.

Needless to say but Durban panel beaters was unable to fix the dent, instead they damaged my vehicle more. And the dent on the back door still remains. Samantha Chetty from Durban Panel beaters together with the Netassess assessor tried to convince my wife and I that there was no dent and our six months old SUV came from the manufacturers looking like that.

A day after Les champman the own of Durban Panel beaters arranged a meeting with me, he too was unable to see the dent on door or any other problems that I saw. He tried to intimidate me by asking me why I brought my vehicle to his panel shop to be repaied. The assessor then requested an assessment to be done by Durban South Toyota, the assessment was done in the presence of Les Chapman together with two assessors from Netassess, it was concluded that there is a dent along with many other areas that need rectification.

Since then I have requested from Discovery Insurance a new door and that the other area to be sorted out by a new panel shop and NOT Durban Panel Beaters but consultants like Musarath Park Kruger from Discovery Insurance and Ulisses from Netassess are insisting on Durban Panel Beaters. Im feeling a bit intimidated and I would like some advice.

Warm regards Jayson Maistry ***
