Avoid Discovery Insurance like the plague!!!!!
I have had the misfortune of encountering the insurance company that makes other insurance companies seem outstanding! Following a vehicle accident on 21/09/2024, my vehicle was written off. The Discovery insurance agent initially advised me of the incorrect process, took time to revert with the correct process and then subsequently reverted to the incorrect process. The Discovery insurance agent then advised me of the salvage value of my vehicle when this value had yet to be determined by the auction warehouse! My decision to salvage my vehicle was based on an invalid number! Discovery Insure authorised my vehicle to be towed to a particular panel beater but did not know that my vehicle was not at the auction warehouse! My agreement of loss was signed 10 working days ago and I have not yet received the payout in terms of my insurance contract nor has Discovery consented to release my vehicle to be repaired. The auction warehouse eventually clarified exactly what documents they are waiting for from Discovery. I am deaf and my voice mail requests that people correspond with me in writing. Discovery Insurance are aware of my hearing disability yet Discovery's courier defensively provides proof of their unsuccessful phone calls!? My request for them to advise me in writing what address I should courier the documents to, has been ignored. The deplorable ineffective service that I have received from Discovery is now costing me thousands in car hire since this painful process has extended beyond my courtesy car hire maximum period. This forced expense for imperative transport is immensely stressful for a single mother of two school-going children.
It was understood on 04/11 that Discovery would reimburse me for my car rentals incurred due to their ineffective service but 9 days later, I have not even received this!
I would simply like to receive the compensation in terms of my insurance contract.
Do I need to escalate this to Office of the Short Term Insurance Ombud?!
Discovery puts the onus on the policyholder to buy back the vehicle whereas my previous insurance company did this as part of their service. This will lengthen the period for which I incur car rentals since I am deaf and do not have the luxury of a phone call to implore immediate action.
