Avoid Discovery Household Insurance

I was a victim of a smash and grab. I had 2 jackets laying at the back of my car that were ******. I contacted discovery about the smashed window glass (no problem). However, when I contacted them regarding the jackets they asked that I send pictures of me wearing the jackets to prove that they were mine. After having to go through my photo album, luckily I did find a picture! I sent it to them, including the quote on the jacket that they also requested. I also provided them with the case number from the police. But this was not enough, they wanted me to return to the police station and take pictures of the actual police report. To make matters worse, they told me that I should have “specifically” mentioned jackets as part of my household goods. Such absolute nonsense. I don’t understand why they can’t simply call the police to verify that the case was opened. Instead, they keep finding an excuse or requesting something else to verify the ownership of my property. Had I known that claiming for any household goods with Discovery would be this painful, I would never have used them as my insurer. To this day I’m still waiting on their reply regarding my claim. I’ve wasted money with this insurer.

The service I’ve received from discovery has been appalling. They informed me by email that the money should be deposited into my account within 72 hours. It has been a total of a 168 hours already. I gave them a call after the first 72 hours and they assured me that the transfer had already been done and that I should wait another 72 hours. That 72 hours has lapsed. I anticipate a similar response today when I call them: please wait ANOTHER 72 hours. The service I received has been disappointing and honestly tiring. I’m now concerned about the other products I have with them. Namely my life insurance. Upon my death, will my family have to go through all this just to have them pay out? Makes you wonder. I would urge anyone with discovery products to think about this. Discovery is very efficient when it comes to collecting their premiums but when they have to pay what is due to you, they will keep sending emails reassuring you and asking you to wait a further 72 hours. I’ve had my life insurance with them for 2 years and already the service I received from their household insurance is indicating RED FLAGS!!!
