Ashleigh Abrahams ignores my emails re claim

I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note10s dual sim, in April and I added it to my Discovery insurance policy as a portable item. (I've had many cellphones and laptops over the years and always insure them for the first couple of years but remove them off my policy after two years. I have never claimed for a computer, laptop or cellphone). However, I had the unfortunate experience, a few days ago, of having my phone drop out of my back pocket, into the toilet.

I immediately submitted a Discovery online claim for the phone. I also uploaded copies of the Incredible Connection invoice/receipt with the phone's details etc.

I was impressed when I promptly received an SMS saying that Ashleigh Abrahams would be attending to my claim within the next 24 working hours. I duly received an SMS stating that the claim had been approved and Cellucity would contact me to discuss the replacement.

I received the call from a gentleman at Cellucity and asked him whether the phone was a dual sim as I had previously bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note10s from Takealot which was advertised as dual sim but had to return it because it was a single sim i.e. the tray was exactly as per the dual sim tray but with one sim slot blanked off (it could take two sim cards if one didn't require an SD card, however, I need two sim cards plus an SD card. Takealot did not have any Redmi Note10s dual sim phones in stock. I ended up going to Incredible Connection and managed to buy a Xiaomi Redmi Note10s dual sim phone from them. It was the only one in stock at the time and I was fortunate enough to get it for R4999 as a special price). The gentleman at Cellucity double-checked and phoned me back to say that their phones were all single sim.

I explained the situation I'd had, in an email to Ashleigh Abrahams but a day later, I received an email stating that I would receive a voucher to purchase a phone at Takealot (Ashleigh had obviously not read my emails properly). I once again, confirmed that I was hesitant about getting a voucher for Takealot because of the experience I'd had previously (normally, I'd be very happy to shop at Takealot). I then received a payment of R4499 into my bank account and an email from Ashleigh Abrahams stating that Discovery had paid me the amount which was the value of the phone at Takealot.

Firstly, I made it clear that I was hesitant to get a phone from Takealot because they may not be dual sim phones, even though they are advertised as such... the sim card is the only thing that differentiates the phone and secondly, my phone was insured for R4999 and Discovery were paying me out R4499 for a phone I'd had for approximately two months!

I've written several emails to Ashleigh Abrahams, asking for the name of the person that Discovery would've contacted at Takealot to confirm that the phone is a dual sim but I have not had a reply. I am hesitant to buy a phone which may turn out to be a single sim... what recourse would I have from Discovery? Hopefully, someone at Discovery will follow up and sort out the issue as Ashleigh Abrahams has totally ignored my last emails.

Reviewer Update
I received a reply from Discovery Insure and was informed that someone would contact me to discuss the claim.

Yesterday (23 June 2022), Katelgo Moremi, Discovery claims consultant, emailed me to find out when he could contact me as he had tried to do so but to no avail. I rep**** to him as soon as I received his email, to say that there had been load-shedding and I was unable to send or receive
calls during that time as the network goes down (CellC). Needless to say, he hasn't phoned me back or rep**** to any of my subsequent emails.

I find the service absolutely shocking. Had they paid me out the total amount of the value of the phone (R4999) so that I could ensure I replaced it with exactly the same model i.e. dual sim (two sim cards and an SD card) and not R500 less (R4499) because Ashleigh Abrahams didn't understand what a dual sim phone is and didn't ask or take the time to read my emails, the situation would not have developed into something so frustrating. She obviously thought
she was being clever by depositing R4499 into my account and suggesting I get the phone from Takealot, without doing her homework properly. I confirmed that I would accept the lower amount if she could tell me who she had spoken to at Takealot to get absolute clarity on whether it is a dual sim phone (two sim card slots and one SD card).
I've checked the Takealot website and the details are as per the original ad which advertised a dual sim phone but it was a single sim - two open slots i.e. one for one sim card and the other an SD card!!
