Any excuse not to pay claims-conflict of interest
On Saturday, I submitted a claim for a power surge. My three year old Samsung Smart TV was damaged. I live in Pretoria East, and fall under the Wapadrand Substation which is currently extremely unstable due to explosions. For this reason, I paid more money into YOUR bank accounts by taking additional insurance. I am aware of the increased excesses and understand why given the power situation in this country.
Last year, Discovery tried to get me to pay an excess on a ten year old dishwasher, because the service provider deemed it fixable. TEN YEARS old and you wanted to fix it. I decided to treat myself to a new one, and not fight you on this, how lucky for you, but this is unforgivable.
You send out service providers who make their money FROM repairs. They arrive here in ***** vehicles, eyeing out my home and seeing how much money they can make. This incident of a three year old tv in an area known for unstable power being deemed as "wear and tear" is unfathomable to me. How do you propose that it is wear and tear when the damage occurred post a failure and post these three years of outages, some of which have lasted over a week. How is the proposition that it must surely be wear and tear on a THREE YEAR OLD TV, after you tried to get out of your obligation with my dishwasher last year.
Do you not see how it is a conflict of interest to send out these service providers? These assesors should be neutral and not make their money from your repairs. This is ************ and makes me question your business practices. I am a lowly healthcare professional and not esteemed actuaries like you, but surely this does not make business or ethical sense?
Be that as it may, despite absolutely loving my broker, and having good service from you in other regards, I cannot ignore how you continue to exploit me. I am not rich like you, living in my upper class suburbs on the money of my loyal members, but currently I pay Discovery in excess of R9500 per month, including my measly investments which sit with you too. It is clear you have no value for me as a client, unless you take money from me, and as such, I have contacted PPS to move all the things I have with you, over to them. I trust that Discovery will also not hinder the movement of everything I have, as frankly, I cannot wait to see the backs of you.
In the meantime, kindly alert Golden Mile Electronics to return my "worn and torn" tv (else I will lay charges of theft), and refund the Discovery Miles you took for the excess.
Indeed, a massive pity that such a long relationship has been destroyed by an R8000 TV and shady business practices. I realise now that everything said about this organisation is true, and I have in fact, been defending an ********* organisation for over a decade.
