Another claim whereby I need to FIGHT!!!

I lodged a claim for furniture damaged by flooding in my home. Assessor #1 evaluates the damage at R61,000. Then, bizarrely, Assessor #2 arrives—not to assess the damage, but to determine what's left in the house and puts a value of R169,000 on the remaining contents. That figure makes zero sense.

Discovery then offers me a pitiful R51,000 settlement—less than the damage value!—and has the audacity to want to fetch the damaged goods once claim is processed. I am left with a closed claim, a house full of ruined furniture, and a growing sense of frustration.

When I raised a complaint, I was told I should hire my own assessor at my own cost. Absolutely not. I’m the policyholder—I pay premiums, and I expect proper service. Now it’s April, my furniture is still here, damaged, and nobody from Discovery gives a damn. Meanwhile, my premiums? Oh, those went up without hesitation.

I’m done wasting time. I am escalating this to the Ombudsman. I want what I’m owed—my R60,000 damages settled. That’s it. No excuses. No more delays.

Good day LeeAnn,

We're really sorry to hear about your ongoing struggle with Discovery Insurance. It sounds incredibly frustrating and unfair, especially given the discrepancies in the assessments and the inadequate settlement offer.

We have made the relevant management team aware of your distress regarding the claim.
