Almost 30days and no claim resolution - IRRATE CLIENT

I had an accident in my BRAND NEW 6 week old car (2000km on the clock) on the 10th March before 9am on our way on holiday, 2 kids and husband in the car with me. Discovery called, organised tow trucks, medics, etc, etc all was going well. No one got hurt, great, but i was devastated about my BRAND NEW CAR. Fast forward a bit and we are still waiting for quotes etc to come back, i hear nothing from Discovery, my broker tries to find feedback. No they need to further strip the car to see the damage and we must be patient. 23rd March rolls around and i get an sms to say that the repairs to my vehicle have been approved - i have not yet seen 1 quote, not been able to get anything from them. Receive the assessment report and the quote is sitting at R196 000!!! (Called the repairer and the initial costs were R265k) I go through the assessment report - THATS ONLY BODY WORK!!! So they have not quoted on windcsreen, electrical, ENGINE! Its great fixing a car, but what's the point if I CANT TURN IT ON! We raise this with Discovery, who you would think would have people educated enough in their area to be able to PICK THIS UP and not have to be told by the client that they are missing a BIG BLACK HOLE of costs. Now the claim gets escalated and they now require the repairer to write a letter stating that they only quoted on body work and that they motivate for write off... Letter still waiting for, that will be a separate review... No letter and now further escalation to some specialist team (specialists in wasting clients time more like). So now as of today they now want to do pressure tests on the engine... NOTE: The engine is crushed, the aircon compressor is crushed, the radiator is broken, the gearbox and engine were hit so hard that they are now sitting flush. How they even expect to do a pressure test i do not know. We are now on day 26 and Discovery Insure are STILL dragging their feet taking me and my brokers from pillar to post and i am only meant to have 4 more days of car rental left. Do the math: Towing: R14k Storage: i dont know, now for a month best guess R5k Number of hours stripping and assessing etc probably 12 @ R500 ph R6k Windscreen: R15k best guess (rain sensors etc) Body Damage: R196k (Note on the email from the repairer they stated they needed an additional 5hrs per side of the chassis so add R5k Engine Damage: Unknown Electrical Damage: Unknown

So this is all best guess but the costs currently are sitting at around R240 000+ and escalating EXCLUDING windscreen, engine and electrics. Based on the assessment report that is roughly 55% of the value of the vehicle. Also not taking into consideration any additional costs which after talking with the repairer could be substantial as they have not even taken a look at the car completely stripped, this is all best guess.

I am getting more and more infuriated by the day because we have had consultants on more than one occasion say to us that they don't understand what is happening, why this is taking so long and that they can see from experience that the car should have been be a write off. HOW Discovery even think that they can POSSIBLY repair a 6week old car to the state it was before this type of accident is beyond me. My brokers have been INCREDIBLE, Discovery is ****** useless and ***********.

Reviewer Update
We are now sitting on 12 April 2023 with no further update, Discovery have dragged their heels at every turn, i have had to return the rental vehicle as its now over 30 days!! I have not received ANY call from Discovery, no escalation has been done, NOTHING!!! We have the report from the assessor stating that the vehicle should be written off but that was a week ago already!! If this is not resolved this week my broker will be taking Discovery to the Ombudsman. We have EVERYTHING in writing, all delays, all mismanagement, all escalated complaints EVERYTHING.
