Accident Claim: Discovery Insure's Unreasonable Denial of Liability
Company: Discovery Insure Reference/Claim Number: *** Agent Dealing with Claim: Nonhlanhla Sinthumule Accident Date: 07/08/2024
I am lodging a formal complaint regarding the handling and resolution of my third-party motor claim (***), which has been intentionally delayed and complicated by Discovery Insure for over a month.
Summary of the Incident: The accident occurred on 07 August 2024. My vehicle was a total loss after it was struck by your insured, who was 100% at fault for running a mandatory stop sign. I have provided a police report (Case no from JMPD S.0043/08/2025) and supporting evidence confirming that your insured's direct violation of the traffic law caused the collision.
Discovery Insure’s Unreasonable Stance: Despite irrefutable evidence, Discovery Insure has refused to accept 100% liability. They have issued two "final offers," with the latest being an unacceptable R11,435.21, citing baseless "contributory negligence." I have calculated the fair, final settlement amount (Market Value R44,700.00 minus Salvage R17,880.00) to be R26,820.00 for the vehicle loss, which I have formally demanded.
Failure to resolve this matter within the specified timeframe will result in the immediate escalation of my complaint to the Ombud for Short-Term Insurance (OSTI). I urge Discovery Insure to take responsibility and resolve this matter fairly and swiftly.
