Absolutely horrific, Discovery ****s women
The absolute worse insurance to insure your vehicle, especially as a female. My mom had a what was assessed to be a minor problem with the vehicle were the under cover of her car had come a little loose while driving on rough terrain, but it was in no way affecting the car's function, nor did the car have any mechanical issues. Her Hyundai Tucson had also never missed any services, and had been serviced at Hyundai and in full working order few weeks prior to her being told by discovery that her insurance covered panel beating and that she could proceed to have the under cover fixed. Discovery Insure then instructed on a panel beater to use, which was Durban South Panel and Paint, where we subsequently took the car for repairs. The panel beaters then claimed that they had also had to fix the radiator which had cracked due to the undercover being loose, which was the first red flag as this hadn't been picked up during the initial assessment by the insurance. A few days after the car was returned to my mother the car overheated while she was on the freeway, and she luckily managed to eventually drive to the nearest service station, and when they opened the car discovered that there are pipes that hadn't been clamped by the panel beaters. The following day she communicated with the insurance and was told to take it back to the panel beater, and each time the problems persisted but the panel beaters would write a report saying all was in order. The car was now failing to start properly, a vehicle that had never had any mechanical issues prior to using this panel beater suggested by Discovery Insure. We eventually took the car back to Hyundai and refused to keep taking it back and forth between these places, and discovered that the gasket was now blown. and that's when a so-called "investigation" eventually ensued by Discovery for what we thought would determine who was liable to pay between the insurance and the panel beaters they had assigned to fix the car. All of a sudden this panel beating place was making visits to Hyundai wanting access to the car for God knows what as they had failed to assist on multiple occasions, that was another red flag. My mom was now without a vehicle, and received little to no feedback from Discovery unless she was the one following up on the matter. She kept being told they were waiting for an assessor to come and this was the story for weeks, and once that assessor had eventually come, we were told another "senior" assessor had to see the car and again we waited. This process took over a month, and then we received an email stating the gasket had blown due to the car being driven without coolant. This was a huge shock to us as the car was fully serviced, and my mom made regular top-ups of the coolant. My mom suffers from extreme anxiety and had not been able to get a good night's sleep during the whole month that the investigation was taking place, and hearing that she now had to fork out roughly R30k to fix the car herself sent her into an absolute spiral to a point where we have had to rush her to the ER, and she currently can't function without medication. She was then instructed to go and fetch her car from Hyundai, and is now at home with a damaged vehicle that had been in perfect working order prior to using the third party service provider recommended by Discovery, and Hyundai has also claimed the warranty lapsed when the insurance took the vehicle to a third party. We thought Discovery would be an upgrade from the previous insurer, not knowing we were setting ourselves up for an absolute nightmare
