3 weeks later, no replacement car and no progress with the claim

My father’s car was damaged on the 24th of November (over 3 weeks ago), and the claim was reported to Discovery immediately. There was no feedback from Discovery until the 6th of December when they sent an email offering to pay out an amount they deemed to be correct. After getting a quote, it was evident that the damage was over three times what they had agreed to pay. The vehicle is not road worthy, and up until this point, no replacement vehicle was offered. On the 11 th Dec, the panel beaters sent a revised quote. They said that both doors were buckled and had been pulled free of the post. The rear door needed replacing. I forwarded this to Discovery on the same day, and so did the panel beater, and I heard nothing since. It is now 3 weeks since the incident and businesses are closing down and I am left without a car and no replacement car. I have also tried to get hold of the claims administrator Samukele Mnguni at his landline provided or email address on numerous occasions in the past week. The phone is not answered and the emails are unanswered. We have also emailed the complaints division, but there has been no response.

Hi there,

We have still not received any response. None of our emails are being rep**** to or even acknowledged and we cannot reach anyone at the call centre.

It is now going on 1 month. We still have no replacement car and our car is sitting at the panel beater accruing costs. I am not sure what else to do.

It is now 5 days since Discovery has said they will reply. Still no response. It is now one month with no car or replacement car and no response from Discovery. The next step will be approaching the Ombudsman as we simply cannot get any response from Discovery and we are accruing storage fees at an alarming rate due to not being able to move our car from the panel beaters. This is absolutely shocking.

Update: It is now 10 days since Discovery's response and still no reply. It is now over a month and we have no replacement car and our car is still being stored and accruing costs at the panel beaters. We have been in contact with the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance (OSTI) and we are busy putting a case together with the supporting documentation and will be handing this to OSTI next week. We have been totally and completely ignored by Discovery. We will be approaching various media outlets once this claim is finalised as this needs to be brought to the attention of the public. It is unfathomable that an insurance company would treat their policyholders in this way.
