Wrongly presented Debit Order to Bank
I am a member of Discovery Health Medical Scheme. I signed a debit order to go off against my bank account on the 1st of every month to settle my monthly membership fee. This is done because my employer pays my medical aid contribution over into my bank account on the 31st of every month. On the 1st of December 2017 Discovery presented a debit order and the debit order was paid without any problem. WITHOUT ANY NOTIFICATION Discovery Health then again presented a debit order to my bank, FNB, on the 30th of December 2017, apparently for the January 2018 membership contribution. My bank, FNB, then declined the payment because the money from my employer was not yet in my bank account. Due to the holidays the money from my employer was only in my bank account on the 2nd of January 2018.
1. My perfect bank record has now been blemished and do now show a non-payment, on my bank account, because of "funds not available". 2. I NEVER received any notification from Discovery Health that they will present the debit order on a different day than the day I authorized them to present the debit order. I am sure they will claim they did give notice. Then they must please provide proof of notice as will be legally accepted in a court of law. The monthly contribution is still in my bank account as my employer paid it. 3. I NEVER gave authorization to Discovery Health to present a debit order on any other day that the 1st of each and every month. 4. It is unheard off that a company like Discovery just ignore the law and treat authorization, to deduct money form a bank account, as they see fit and recklessly go about with personal authorization of a client. Surely, they cannot just present debit orders as they please or like!!!! How can Discovery be trusted be ANY authorization for debit orders when they damage the trust relationship with their clients by misuse of authorization given.
Money was available in my account but because Discovery WRONGLY presented the Debit order the bank refused to pay. If the debit order was correctly presented, as approved by me, there would have not being any problem. I manually paid the membership fee and phoned to inform Discovery as such. The operator informed me that they will teach me a lesson because I submitted a complaint to the Council for Medical Aids against Discovery. This is totally unacceptable. The fact that benefits was just suspended make sense if you look at what the operator told me. A simple call or email requested payment would have solved this problem also but Discovery wanted to show their power by sending, the first and only communication, a mail informing of the suspension of benefits.
Payment was made and proof was send to Discovery but still no word or confirmation from Discovery that my benefits has been restored. This is clear victimization by Discovery because they believe they are all mighty.
