WRITTEN NOTIFICATION OF UNFACTUAL PRE-EXSISTING CANCER CONSITION

I completed an application for Discovery Gap Cover on the internet - reference ********** 885. AT 11h18, I received an email from Discovery Gap stating that the conditions had changed due to pre-existing conditions and that exclusions would be enforced accordingly. The exclusion for the "pre-existing" conditions were clearly indicated in a table, which stated 12 month exclusion for Gynaecological conditions and 12 month exclusion for cancer. At this point, I am feeling quite wrecked as the cancer exclusion is news to me.... I do not have cancer as far as I am aware, although I did have surgery in December. Panic stricken and quite devastated, I contact Discovery so that they can enlighten me on the pre-existing cancer condition (all the while thinking that they had perhaps received pathology results that my surgeons had not yet received). The very friendly consultant that took my call was understanding and tried to placate me insofar as she could, however could not actually tell me if the cancer exclusion was based on my pathology results or not. She then assisted me by giving me the details that I needed to contact the relevant people to obtain the results. After being absolutely devastated for what seemed like hours, I found out that all of my pathology reports were benign, with not even a mention of the word "cancer".

My issue here is two-fold:

1. How can Discovery send out a letter that is not factual? If they were unsure, I would imagine that a simple email querying the results of pathology reports would have been the correct procedure? 2. At what point was my emotional reaction to this a concern? Surely, if I had known that I had cancer, I would have disclosed this in the application.

I am absolutely ecstatic that I do not have cancer but I have to say that this has been absolutely horrific and I shudder to think that things like this can be stated in writing based on assumption. I am seriously no longer wanting the gap cover and looking at changing my medical aid too.

Very unhappy with this inexcusable behaviour :(

Discovery Gap cover called me to "apologise" apparently but the conversation went like this.... "Hi Miss Michelle, on behalf of Discovery we would like to apologise for an emailed complaint we received. Please can I ask you to send proof that cancer is not pre-existing." So what exactly was the apology for? Clearly they still believe that I do have cancer. At no point have they offered a valid reason as to why they state that I have cancer. They also cannot provide any proof of this.
