WORST , UNRELIABLE MEDICAL AID
Welcome to Discovery Medical aid
Where you need to schedule your sickness and hospital visit according to Discovery Health office working Hours
Where you cant have any emergency admission Where you cannot reach them for any emergency that occurs outside their working hours.
I recently joined this medical assistance program, and I am horrified by the care I received. This is my heart-breaking tale.
Since I have a 7-month-old, I made sure that certain things, including the waiting period, were covered when I took this medical aid. They were informed that I was leaving a medical assistance program I had worked with for many years.
I took this medical aid and made sure certain things are covered such as waiting period since I have a 7 months old. I was moving from a medical aid I had with a company for years and that information was shared with them.
They promised me that my child would not have to wait, but I would have to wait for three months. Since my child is currently the most important person in my life, I didn't mind. There is no waiting period for any benefits, and medical assistance is active for the child.
On January 17, 2025, at 19:26, my child becomes ill. Her temperature was over 39.8, and her breathing was rapid, so I take her to the hospital right away. After examining her, the doctors stabilized her and requested admission to monitor her respiration, temperature, and hydration.
They confirmed that they would admit her on the 18th at 1:00, following the completion of all necessary documentation. Then came my nightmare: when we were filling out the admission paperwork, they informed me that we needed authorization from my medical insurance, but my insurance is CLOSED UNTIL 08:00 in the morning.
My child is in a sick bed with drips on, and they inform me that since your medical assistance is closed, they are unable to admit you and must transfer you to a government hospital. As in, what the devil?
Medical assistance stated that they must determine whether the admittance was not due to a pre-existing medical condition.
They called me on Monday to ask me questions and proceed with the admittance auth request; on Tuesday, they informed me that they were finalizing the authorization; and on a 7-month-old, I'm not sure if a high temperature is a condition that would be addressed month to month.
I'm wondering why they would provide 24-hour authentication for a decision that would take seven or eight business days. Why do we even have requests for auths on infants, and why do we have authorizations for minors with no waiting period?
As of today, January 30, I have yet to receive confirmation of whether or not the admission was accepted. My child is experiencing side effects from the medications and treatment
I have yet to receive any feedback. It was me who got in touch with your company to cancel. It was me that followed up and took the initiative in every situation. I'm genuinely disappointed. To be honest, I didn't want to discontinue this medical assistance, but I reasoned that if it would disappoint me and endanger the life of my 8-month-old baby, then why would I continue to stay?
And because I keep receiving texts from the hospital stating that they have denied every claim, the horror keeps going on.
They don't care about their customers, which is another reason I don't regret having to terminate their service. They don't practice TCF and don't give a damn about their clients' well-being.
A company that lacks empathy, doesn't even understand what TCF is, and only cares about making money rather than its customers. They simply don't want to pay anything, thus health is definitely not an issue here. After reading through all the other reviews, I realized that I've dodged many bullets by canceling my membership.
Imagine having to go through this again, do you guys know how frustrating it is to have someone sick let alone admitted/in a critical condition in Hospital for you to just toss them around like some tennis *****.
