Worst maternity benefits of all medical schemes

Please...I do not recommend anyone go with Discovery Health medical aid! And as much as they are probably reading this complaint and thinking, "Well, it doesn't matter because we've got thousands of people on our books." This one complaint does matter, because only once you go through the benefits do you see what a **** they are and how there is always a catch with them! I am particularly talking about the maternity benefits, they lie about the benefits they provide and always choose to omit the truth and only when you call in to actually find out what the benefit is, do you realise how they've played you into thinking you are getting so many maternity benefits in the meantime it's all the same thing and in turn ALL not covered! If you're deciding to start a family or extend on your family, please do yourself a favour and don't use Discovery Health! Rather find another medical aid that is trustworthy, provides the benefits they say they will and honors the agreement to pay the benefit. Believe me, Discovery is not the way and has the WORST maternity benefits in the world of medical aids. They only allow 8 visits during a 9 month pregnancy!! How is that even possible?! And that is just ONE aspect that is totally wrong! The only thing they can redeem themselves with is the Vitality benefits, I guess because their Vitality is decent they decide that the actual maternity benefits is allowed to be ****py! Well, you will end up paying and coughing up way more money paying towards your medical aid premiums PLUS the amounts they DO NOT pay towards your doctors bills and pathology tests! So believe me, in that instance - your Vitality rewards are definitely not worth it!

My gynecologist is part of the Smart Classic Scheme rates, yet they only cover a portion and when you query it, it's because Smart Classic doesn't cover specialists...so basically we are even lucky to have been paid a portion. Then they don't cover certain pathology tests that the gynecologist sends you for, which may I remind you...is part of pregnancy so why isn't it covered? The consultant has no answer for me. Then, we are told we are allowed a lactation consultation, when I query which consultant I can go to so that I don't have to pay extra and ACTUALLY enjoy the benefit...I am told that I need to provide practice number and codes in order to see how much they will cover the consultant so STILL, I would have to pay a portion...what is the use of offering these benefits if we still have to pay portions towards these "benefits"? Why do we pay soooo much towards our premiums if we STILL have to pay towards our consultations?? This is honestly daylight ******* and Discovery underwriters or principles really have to look deeper into the benefits and making certain that the benefits written out on the product information corresponds to what the benefit actually covers! Please can you guys do this so that we don't continue to fall into your traps and still have to pay extra towards our doctors bills?!
