Worst Experience Ever

Honestly dont know any more...

I have been a loyal Discovery Client for over 15 years now. And honestly, not happy, never really been. Discovery is an expensive medical aid, yet I still have to pay for doctors, I am on chronic medication, and still have to pay about 50% of this. My kids needs to get braces, I still need to pay this... Honestly, pay medical aid, and sommer everything else also while you are at it.... Not sure how this business model is even still legal... To make matter worse I get called almost on a daily basis from them to try and sell me Discovery Insurance, or Life Insurance... This despite the fact that their core business service cannot fulfill my needs....

I am ranting, as you can imagine, I am a bit frustrated. My wife had to go for an operation. When trying to book this we had to literally jump through hoops to get approval. Even got us to get motivation letters from doctors! Disgraceful to treat loyal customers this way to say the very least!!! We were told we will need to do a co-payment of R9500 which will be refunded afterwards.... This is again worrying me... We can affird this, but what if we couldnt? Would that have meant my wife would have had to do without this required op?

Moving on... As you can probably tell by this rant... They now refuse to refund this money, despite, again making us send them ultrasounds, post op reports, etc. Reasoning something to the effect of prescribed minimum benifit... REALLY? So despite us being with them for 15 years, and having to pay doctors ourselves, chronic medications, dentistry, etc, we are only eligeable for the prescribed minimum benefit? In other words the BARE MINIMUM??!!?

We are on the Classic Priority plan which is by no means a cheap plan. I pay in the region of R10 000 per month.

Discovery, please relook this situation, and rectify. This has already been escalated withing the offices of the ombudsman.

Thanks, though I appreciate the response, and the communications from your side.
It still does not solve my problem.
There's a plethora of fine print, and rules to know when dealing with Discovery, and in the end you still end up paying for everything yourself.

Yours Sincerely,
A very unhappy customer.

PS: Please do not bother to contact me again, unless you have an actual way of fixng this. I do not have time to listen to legislation, end reasons why you dont cover certain things, like my wife's required op in this instance.

Sorry for missing your call.
But honestly, reading your mail, actually, I am glad I missed your call. It would have just upset me again.
I specifically stated not to try and contact me unless you have an answer to rectify the situation.
This you do not have.
Offering me to pay for it myself out of my own fund… Wow.
Super unhappy about this, and will be looking at moving my aid somewhere else.
I pay R10 000 per month, and at the moment Discovery does not even cover my chronic medication…. I pay about 60%.
Well done on this!
Further more, my wife had furious stomach and back pains. She went to the Dr, who told her to see the gynochologist, the Dr decided she needed this done. In order to avoid further complications later down the line.
Now… My medical aid wont pay for it… Despite the fact that I pay R120k per year, and have been a loyal member for more than 20 years!
Last year I had to pay for my son’s braces, the year before that for my other son’s. So much for any form of Dental?
It would seem I pay R120k per year to receive a savings pocket of roughtly R25k, and NOTHING more.
Prescribed Minimum Benefit….
She needed the operation, we even had to send though motivation letters, and post op reports, and ultrasounds….
If this is how Discovery treats loyal customers, then I am not interested.
