What DO I Pay For?

Last year in july I spent 5 days in hospital with a possible case of encephalitis. I had severe headaches, nausea and vomiting and blurry vision. I was admitted to hospital after acquiring the pre-authorization from discovery as they require. The doctor then took 2 days to first come and see me, and advised that I go for scans to make sure that there was no other complications. A couple of days later the doctor performed a lumber puncture to see if there was any infections or if there was any encephalitis. This happened 2 weeks after I was put onto anti biotics. Then I receive the notification that discovery will not be paying the duration of my stay as the authorization was only for 24 hours. I chose KeyCare as I am a you individual and relatively healthy annd just wanted my hospital stays paid for in case of emergency. I pay close to R2000 a month and now I am left asking why? That 2000 just gets paid to them for no reason and now I'm left with a 10k medical bill. Discovery is an absolute disgrace.

Hello jasonv20,

Thank you for allowing me the time to investigate your query.

As discussed, we were unable to approve the extended length of stay requested. Our Clinical Team has reviewed the information provided by your doctor and this does not meet the clinical entry criteria for an extended length of stay.
