What do Discovery pay for these days

I am disgusted at Discovery's constant NO! What does Discovery actually pay for these days. I can tell you. Nothing. Not my prescription eye glasses, not my dental visits, not my gynae visits, not contraception, absolutely nothing. The MSA is my money so don't tell me you do pay but out of MSA. Why does Discovery not allocate more of the monthly premium to MSA? Everyone I speak to runs out of MSA within a few months of the year beginning. It is day light *******. If I need prescription glasses why must it come out of MSA? If I am trying to prevent future claims by visiting dentists and gynaes why am I penalised. I should be rewarded to going to have these checkups and not with random Discovery points. Let's talk cold, hard cash. Now I want to have a Mirena inserted but it has to come out of MSA AGAIN! Disgusting, disgusting, disgusting. We are a family of 4, allocated about R13,000 a year for MSA despite paying roughly R3,500 a month for medical aid. It equates to R3,000 per person on the family. The Mirena alone is R4,500 + annual gynae visits R1,700, etc, etc. I have been paying out of my own pocket for the last month already! Work it out! You are thieving *******s.

Hello tcheshire,

Thank you for your comment.

The Medical Savings Account (MSA) covers the cost of day-to-day expenses, such as visits to the general practitioner (GP) and to the dentist, as well as the cost for medicine.

The Council for Medical Schemes stated that flexible MSA were inconsistent with a section of the Medical Schemes Act. This meant that medical schemes may not vary their contributions to the MSA. According to regulation, the MSA must be fixed and cannot exceed more than 25% of the total medical scheme contribution. Medical scheme contributions may only vary due to plan type, income and the number of dependants. This means that a member's MSA amount will depend on the plan type that is selected.

As discussed should your plan option not suit you, you may contact your financial advisor to discuss which plan will suit your needs. We do allow members to upgrade their plan type during our Year End Revision period which we will send out communication to confirm when this period starts from.

I am sorry that I could not provide you with a different outcome to your query however it is line with the Scheme rules.

Kind regards
Jashvir
