What a joke!

We have been with Discovery for approx 20 years.

Wanting to change plans, we went into the Smart Classic plan, as advised by Discovery. We used the same Doctor we had been using from approx 2004. Our first prescriptions were not covered and we were told this was because we had not used a network Doctor. I asked them which Doctor we were meant to use and it seems there isn't a network Doctor in that town. Nice! R3,000 of prescription medicines which weren't covered.

luckily we were moving to a larger town and joined a network Doctor according to their rules. Great we thought! We are in business.

Nope, we were wrong again!

meducations again weren't covered as the prescription was from the previous non network Doctor.

we went, at great time expense to ourselves, to their network Doctor and got the correct prescriptions. Off to the chemist we go. Again medications weren't covered as the meds were not according to their formulary.

i then thought I would get to being one step ahead of their game. I phoned in and asked them which if my medications would be covered. None of them! Their rules do not allow me to pick my illnesses. It appears that one can only receive medications for illnesses which Discovery allow. That's my understanding any way. Let's just say that my phone call didn't go well. Ettienne could not understand what I was saying nor could he write down the medications when I spelt them. 12 minutes I tried. I am irritated.

i want a different plan. I need to speak to my Broker. I don't have one I said. Yes I evidently do though I am not aware of it!

seems that I pay close on R4,500 per month and I am so very lucky to have to pay for our medicines as well. Likely R6,000 a month I am paying for the inconvenience of belonging to Discovery.

they tell me that they will send me details of my plan. And they did. It doesn't tell me much. It doesn't tell me about 90% of our medicines not being covered. It seems one has to stab in the dark and try and hit upon a medicine for a condition and hope, beyond hope, that one is covered.

emails go in-answered. Uninterested staff. Managers who try to make it look like everything is my fault.... I just love that, don't you? 'Oh, it looks like this might not be the plan for you'. Really? Because this is the plan which was advised to me by Discovery...

so I fork out R4,500 a month, including for Vitality which I have said I do not want. But I guess I am just a money spinner for Discovery because they deduct for Vitality anyway.... and wow, just wow, I get to pay for my own medicines as well! What a privilege!

I have had enough!!!

my concerns have not yet been addressed.

I am told about ingredients. I am told a lot of things. But no concerns have yet been addressed.

I am waiting. Rather impatiently as I am sure you understand. But I am waiting nonetheless.

I am am afraid that continuously shifting the blame onto me does not help. A plan that cannot be fathomed. Where one is only allowed to take medicines which Discovery allows, despite being on the same medicines through Discovery for years. I am very interested in the ingredients list so that I can concoct my own medicines.... That could be interesting....
